Reflection Post

Hello Everyone!

Wow, what a semester this has been. It will definitely be one I remember as it was thoroughly enjoying and I learned many things.

My favorite project for this semester was definitely the last one. The video was my favorite because it included almost more than half of the stuff we learned for the semester. Also, videos like the one I made, are up my alley of content to create.

Now, I have never used photoshop before, and learned so much when we were in that Unit. I know the photoshop program will definitely come in handy as I currently work in marketing, and will continue to work in marketing in the future. Knowing how to edit the photos the way we were taught this semester, is a great skill for anyone to have. The biggest skills in photoshop that I learned was learning how to crop out an image, and place in onto another while the photo still looking good.

Also, I would have liked to learn more tools on video editing. I know this class doesn’t get that in depth about advanced video editing in premiere, but that would have been cool. I do not have any specifics on what I would have liked to learn, but I just feel like I only know the basics, and learning more than that would be very beneficial to me and my career.

Now, the outside material that came very much in handy for me was creative commons. https://creativecommons.org/ For the second half of the semester, I believe I used that website every week. That was a very helpful website with finding music for my videos. Overall, I had a great time in the class, and the layout of this course worked very smoothly. I don’t usually miss classes after they are over, but I will definitely miss this one!

Go Cougs!

Final Video Story

Hello Class! Here is my Final Version. It was a rough time getting my footage of the outdoors because in Utah, where I live, we got hit with an earlier winter storm which dropped a ton of snow. Because of the snow, I couldn’t hit the mountains. Don’t let the footage fool you though with the no snow, it was still freezing! I couldn’t get up to the mountains like I wanted, but this state park in Utah did the trick for me.

The process for this video was super fun, because this is what I do quite frequently. I am in most of the video, while I had my girlfriend tag along and record me. I conducted her on what I needed, film wise, for this project. I definitely couldn’t have done it without her! Now, after I got all of my film together for this final video, I uploaded it to Adobe Premiere. The process in Premiere wasn’t that bad, as this class has helped tremendously with teaching us all how to use these programs. All of the film and photos are my own, and were not taken from any source. Some of the film in this video was taken on the Iphone 11, and some of it was taken with a Sony Alpha camera. The music that I included into my video, is from Creative Commons. The song is called Tomorrow, by BenSound. The one part I did have a difficult time was with the title in the beginning of my video, and at the end. I knew how to put the titles into my video, but the hard part for me was trying to type in the title. After multiple different searches on google, I finally figured it how to type in the lines for my titles. This project was definitely my favorite throughout the whole semester and I am happy with the outcome of it.

Draft Video Story

Hello Class! All of the material is this video is created by me, and not taken by any other sources. I know this is nowhere close to what I want my final project to be like, but it’s a start. Since my topic for this course is nature photography, I want to show what it is like in a day in the life of a nature photographer. I couldn’t get more video like I would have wanted, because we recently just got hit with a ton of snow in Utah. I don’t have a 4×4 car to drive in the snow, so I didn’t want to risk it. Since the final is due in 2 weeks, I will definitely have opportunities to get more film that could be used in this video.

The process to create this video went pretty smooth, as I knew how to use Adobe Premiere before this class started. I use it for work purposes, along with personal uses. Both the video and photos in this post are shot with a Sony Alpha 6300. As a nature photographer, I have found that this is the camera that fits my style the best.

Now, for the final video, I already have ideas in my mind that I plan to add to this video. First, I plan on adding some background music, so it can add a little more spice to the video. The music that I add with be music that is not copyrighted, of course. Second, I will add more actual video, and less photos. Like I stated earlier, I will have time to hit the mountains to get more creative film for this final project. I plan to share the story of a photographer, from the morning, all the way until I get home. Third, I am also thinking of adding some type of title in the beginning of the video, so there is more understanding of what the video is going to be about.

Draft Audio Final

This is my final audio story of a day in the life on a nature photographer! My idea of this audio started on the day that I read about it, which was at the very beginning of the semester. I knew I wanted to portray a days long adventure from dusk to dawn, and what I tend to do. From my feedback that I received from other classmates, I was told to add an intro to the beginning of my video, to give the listeners an idea of what they are about to hear. Another common revision that I was told, was to add another voice to the audio story. So, I did that, and interviewed my girlfriend with a couple questions, since she is the one who usually tags along with me when I take these day long trips.

Now, the process to edit from my draft audio story, to now my final audio story, did not take that long, as I am pretty familiar with Adobe Audition. I did have trouble with one particular thing, though. I interviewed my girlfriend and asked her two questions. One, asking her what her favorite thing about going on these trips were. Two, asking her what it was like, personally for her, from dusk to dawn on these trips. I got good responses from her, but struggles immensely on where to add them into my audio story. I struggled for two reasons. I didn’t want it to sound like I was absurdly adding her into my audio, and I also didn’t want to go over that 2 minute mark for this final draft. I did my best, and inserted one of her responses into my audio story, which adds up to when I was talking about the mornings, just as the day is getting started. I feel like this gives the listeners another point of view, other than the one I am giving. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do!

Music: BenSound, Tomorrow

Draft Audio Story

This project has been my favorite so far. Not that I haven’t enjoyed the others, I just feel like this has been up my alley. All of the voice over and recordings in the audio story are my own. I recorded my audio from my phone, and sent it over to my laptop to use in Adobe Audition. For the best quality of audio, I had to make sure that it was quiet in my house, and turn off the fan in the room where I was recording. Additionally, the music that I included in my audio story is not mine. The song is called “tomorrow” and I got it from a creative commons license website called bensound.com. I know for sure that I could use this song because it states in writing that it is free to download and use. I’m not sure if I want to add any additional sounds to my audio story, as I feel that it may be too much background noise around my own voice.

As I started to develop my audio story and create it in Adobe Audition, I noticed that it went very smoothly. I think it went smoothly because in my internship, I work with Adobe audition and premiere. I know the keyboard shortcuts that made it quicker for me to edit both the music, and the audio that I recorded of myself. As you may have noticed before and after I am speaking in my audio story, the music is louder than when I am actually speaking. I lowered the volume to make sure that you can actually hear what I am saying. Just as we did it in the tutorial last week, is the same way I did it for my draft audio. If there is any advice that I can receive to improve, I would love that!

Final Logo Project

Here is my final logo design for J Griff Photo. The revisions for this design took longer than anticipated, because I wanted it to look my best. From my feedback from my classmates, I changed the font of my design to something that was more unique and not so blah. I wanted a unique font that also matched well with the edges of the camera. There were a few fonts that I was contemplating, but ended up choosing the font “Bradley Hand Bold”. Another change that I made to my logo were the lines and edges of my camera. I felt that the straight and basic lines from my draft were too boring, and needed something extra to stand out. After contemplating if I actually liked it or not, I decided to go with the jagged lines called “Charcoal Feather”. Another revision that I did to my logo was the lens part. I took out one of my reflections in the lens, and made the edges black, to blend in with the actual lens itself. I also added an extra circle around the lens to make it look more realistic. Throughout this whole process, I had my camera right next to me so I had something to mimic. On top of the lens revision, I added the “Sony” name to the top left of my camera, to add my balance to the logo. In addition, I added a couple extra small features that a camera would have in real life. To the top left of the camera, I added the capture button, which is the button that actually takes the photo. I also enhanced the flash aspect of the camera, and used the gradient tool to lighten it up, as if the flash were going off. Lastly, I felt that the orange background in my draft logo brought too much attention to the background, so I switched it to the neutral color of grey. I feel that it now looks more professional than that bright orange background I had previously had. All of my revisions in my final draft logo were taken from my classmates’ feedback in my draft post.

Draft Logo Project

This is my draft logo project. I didn’t search any other logo ideas, as I wanted to get inspiration from myself so it is unique from other photographers. Others may think this logo looks basic, but to me, I think it portrays simplicity and straight to the point. I wanted to incorporate my website name into this design. As you may see, or not, the J on the left, is incorporated with the camera logo. I am not the most creative person, so I tried to do my best with the skills I have learned. The circle that I included in the center area in supposed to be the camera lens. The two grey looking square inside the circle is supposed to be a reflection from the camera lens. From the start of creating this design, it was a challenge, because I want it to look amazing. Most of my design is made from the line tool, curve line tool, and shape tool. The background of the logo is just another square that I created, but moved that layer behind everything else. The color behind the logo is from the gradient tool, which gave me that fade look to it. I wanted the font in my logo to be pretty easy to read, so I chose the arial font. To me, I feel like the background color that I chose makes my logo stand out that much more. I know that there is room for improvement, and I know that the feedback that I receive from my classmates is really going to help me out. I told myself before that I wanted to incorporate the Southern Utah landscape in my design,I but not sure now, that I know where to incorporate it. I am satisfied with my logo, but I do not love it.
